Thanks to the generosity of its donors, the Adams County Community Foundation is transforming lives through education. Over the past five years, the Foundation has awarded 133 scholarships, and this year alone, five endowment funds will provide 42 scholarships to local students planning to attend college or trade school. 

The C.E. Smith Family Scholarship Fund will award 20 scholarships: 

Cody Hesler, a North Adams graduate, is a sophomore at Shawnee State University majoring in education. He is a two-time recipient of the C.E. Smith Family Scholarship Fund award. 

Ava Kingsley of North Adams High School plans to attend Shawnee State University and major in Allied Health. 

Lydia Maddox will pursue a degree in education at Shawnee State University. Lydia is from Peebles High School. 

Alanna Mays of North Adams High School plans to attend Miami University to major in accounting. 

Aulbrea Meade will attend Shawnee State University to study Health Science. Aulbrea is from North Adams HS.  

Brooklyn Miller of West Union HS will attend Shawnee State University and major in elementary education.  

Mitchell Ohnewehr, a North Adams HS graduate, is a junior at Alice Lloyd College majoring in business. Mitchell is a three-time recipient of the C.E. Smith Family Scholarship Fund award. 

Ryan Reed of North Adams High School will study mechanical engineering at Wright state University. 

Riley Richey, a North Adams High School graduate and previous recipient of an ACCF Scholarship, is currently a junior at Ohio University, pursuing a degree in education 

Caleb Rothwell, a North Adams High School graduate, is receiving his second award from the C.E. Smith Family Scholarship Fund. He is a sophomore at Ohio Christian University, majoring in math education.  

Kylie Schumacher of Peebles High School is a sophomore attending Shawnee State University majoring in Exercise Science. 

Brandt Seaman is receiving his second award from the C.E Smith Family Scholarship Fund. Brandt, a West Union High School graduate, is a sophomore at Ohio University majoring in chemical engineering.  

Colt Seaman will attend Shawnee State University to study Cybersecurity. Colt graduated from Peebles High School.   

Abigail Smalley, a Peebles High School graduate, is a sophomore at Shawnee State University majoring in business accounting. 

Gracelyn Spires, a West Union High School graduate, is a sophomore at Miami University majoring in education. She is a two-time recipient of the C.E. Smith Family Scholarship Fund award. 

Makinlee Stevenson of West Union High School is a sophomore at Belmont University majoring in Music & Vocal Performance.  

Jaeley Turner, a Manchester High School graduate, plans to major in Imaging Sciences & Sonography. She is currently evaluating potential colleges and trade schools for her studies. 

MaRhea Unger of Peebles High School will attend Cedarville University to major in business marketing.  

Codie Vogler of Peebles High School will attend Shawnee State University to major in business.  

Mary Grace Wickerham of Manchester High School is a sophomore at Ohio University majoring in business marketing.

Established in 2022, the C.E. Smith Family Scholarship Fund has awarded 46 scholarships to citizens throughout Adams County. 

The Charles Hugh McGovney Scholarship Fund was established by Sue Fristoe McGovney in 2021 in memory of her husband, Charles Hugh McGovney, who was a pharmacist at Blake Pharmacy in West Union. Sue was an Adams County school teacher for 35 years. The Charles Hugh McGovney Scholarship fund has awarded eight scholarships including two for this year. 

 Chase Armstrong of Manchester High School will attend the University of Cincinnati to major in Respiratory Therapy.  

Myla Erwin of North Adams High School will attend the University of Cincinnati to pursue a degree in English Communication.  

Earl & Helen Johnson Scholarship Fund, established in 2022 by Bill Johnson in memory of his parents, has awarded 19 Scholarships including four for this year:  

Malaki Bayless of Manchester High School will attend Shawnee State University to major in Physical Therapy. 

Angel Gray of Peebles High School has completed her sophomore year and is currently evaluating colleges for her junior year, where she plans to pursue a degree in counseling. 

Amanda Kimberly will complete her senior year at Shawnee State University. She is a North Adams High School graduate pursuing a degree in psychology.  

Tyler Reed has received his third award from the Earl & Helen Johnson Scholarship Fund. He graduated from North Adams High School and is a junior majoring in electrical engineering at Wright State University.  

The First State Bank Dan Ferguson Scholarship Fund was established in 2024 to honor the memory of Dan Ferguson, who passed away on July 10, 2024. Dan served as First State Bank’s Vice President and Chief Information Officer. This fund will award two scholarships.  

Ryken Copas of West Union High School will attend the University of Cincinnati to pursue a degree in computer science.   

Nicholas Seas is undecided on a college but will pursue a degree in computer engineering. He graduated from Peebles High School.  

The Adams County Scholarship Fund established in 2020 by a couple who graduated from an Adams County high school, was the first endowment of the Adams County Community Foundation. Since its inception, the fund has awarded 58 scholarships, including 14 this year, to support Adams County citizens pursuing college or vocational training. 

Chesnee Ayres of West Union High School was awarded a scholarship from the Adams County Scholarship Fund last year. She is a sophomore at Morehead State University majoring in Image Sciences & Sonography. 

Katelynn Boerger, a North Adams High School graduate, plans to pursue a pre-med degree and is currently evaluating colleges and universities. 

Jacey Farley will attend Shawnee State University and major in Radiologic Technology. Jacey is a graduate of Manchester High School.  

Ainsley Grooms is a senior majoring in nursing at Northern Kentucky University. She is a North Adams High School graduate and previous recipient of a scholarship award from the Adams County Scholarship Fund. 

Hunter Grooms received a scholarship from the C.E. Smith Family Scholarship Fund last year. She is a graduate of North Adams High School and a sophomore at Northern Kentucky University majoring in Exercise Science.  

Tatum Grooms will attend Southern State Community College to pursue a major in Business. She is a graduate of North Adams High School.  

Chase Hicks is a graduate of the Adams County Christian School. Chase plans to attend the Kentucky Welding Institute (KWI) to pursue a vocational certificate in welding and fabrication.  

Tabitha Johnson attended Portsmouth West High School. She will be a junior at Berea College pursuing a degree in education-math.  

Caden Luck graduated from North Adams High School. He will attend Ohio Technical College to pursue certification in Motorbike and Power Equipment.  

Darby Mills, a Peebles High School graduate, is a senior at Wilmington College majoring in Agricultural Business. She is receiving her third scholarship from the Adams County Scholarship Fund.  

Brianna Mullen-Hayes is a graduate of Valley High School. She will attend Shawnee State University to major in University Studies.  

Britney Scrivner, a graduate of Ohio Valley Career & Tech Center, is a senior at Shawnee State University majoring in Business Management.  

Skylar Stapleton is a third time scholarship recipient from the Adams County Scholarship Fund. He is a junior majoring in Arts Management at Miami. Skylar is a graduate of North Adams High School.
